The Emergence of BCS

چکیده
Major contributions in theoretical physics do not emerge in a vacuum. They usually are inspired by experiment, require near total immersion in the relevant theoretical and experimental literature, and are often preceded by years of preliminary work, including the publication of failed or incomplete attempts at producing a theory, while recognition of their success does not always come instantly. The 1957 theory of John Bardeen, Leon Cooper, and Robert Schrieffer, known as BCS, which provided, forty-six years after the discovery of superconductivity, a highly successful microscopic theory of its emergent quantum behavior, fits well into this general paradigm. In this highly personal perspective on their work I address these issues, writing not as a historian, but as a colleague and sometime participant in the events that led up to the theory, and some that followed.

Association of milk yield and body condition score indices with the commencement of luteal activity after parturition in high producing dairy cows
The aim of the present study was to investigate the relation between different indices of milk yield andbody condition score (BCS) with the commencement of the luteal activity (C-LA) during the postpartumperiod in high producing dairy cows. Seventy-one multiparous healthy (free of detectable reproductivedisorders) Holstein dairy cows (mean peak milk yield = 56.7 ± 7.4 kg) were used in the prese...
متن کاملبهینه سازی مدل BCS برای سیستمهای کوچک و محاسبه خواص ترمودینامیکی هستههای Mo97-96
In this paper, we have presented the optimized BCS formalism using the isothermal probability distribution. The effect of statistical fluctuations on thermodynamical properties of nuclei has been investigated. The average gap parameter is calculated and then the energy, the entropy and the heat capacity are evaluated. The resulting values are compared with results of the standard BCS and the ...
متن کاملInfluence of Body Condition Score on Yield and Composition of Milk in Crossbred Dairy Cows
The study was carried out for a period of 150 days on 120 Holstein Friesian crossbred dairy cows between mid to late lactation to quantify the influence of body condition score (BCS) on yield and composition of milk. Total 12 dairy farms having same housing systems and holding at least 20 crossbred dairy cows per farm between mid to late lactation were selected for this study purposes. BCS of i...
متن کاملA Job Shop Scheduling and Location of Battery Charging Storage for the Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)
When the Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are transferring the parts from one machine to another in a job shop environment, it is possible that AGVsstopon their guidepaths since their batteries are discharged.Consequently, it is essential to establish at least one Battery Charging Storage (BCS) to replace full batteries with empty batteries for the stopped AGVs. Due to non-predictable routes fo...
متن کاملEffect of treatment of wheat straw with Pleurotus florida on feed intake, digestibility and body condition score in ewes
This experiment was carried out to compare the effects of treated and untreated wheat straw with Pleurotus florida on ewe feed intake, nutrient digestibility, and ewe body condition score (BCS) after parturition. Thirty Kermani ewes with an average weight of 48 ± 3.05 kg and about four years old were used in this experiment. Synchronization of estrus in sheep has been achieved with the use of i...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Body Condition Score and Its Relationship with Productiveand Reproductive Performances of Holstein Cows
The objective of the present study was to determine factors affecting body condition score (BCS) and its association with productive and reproductive performances in Holstein cows. Mixed model analysis was performed on monthly records of BCS from April 2006 to July 2012 comprising 34666 records from 3134 dairy cows in a large commercial dairy herd under arid climatic conditions of Isfahan in Ir...
